Finance Technician II (FCPS Internal Candidates)
Fairfax County Public Schools is seeking a Finance Technician II to perform a variety of paraprofessional accounting duties required to maintain complex financial records. The role involves entering and maintaining transactions within computerized systems, producing reports, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and policies.

Responsibilities
Oversees and carries out the finance and accounting requirements of the School Finance Handbook
Enters financial data and records of transactions into computerized systems in accordance with accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Maintains and tracks accounts for programs involving highly varied and complex entries, including travel expenses, co-curricular activities, and high school athletics
Classifies transactions involving the distribution of expenditures among many classes of accounts
Supervises and assists with the receipt and deposit of funds from various sources
Analyzes and applies complex rules and procedures
Implements work methods for accounting duties to build processing efficiencies
Compiles and retrieves monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual totals, reports, and financial statements
Reconciles all financial transactions monthly; oversees budget compliance for programs and grants
Reviews past expense history and assists the school-based administrators with budget forecasting
Provides guidance and support regarding financial information and documentation to school-based employees and central office staff
May be assigned to order major supplies, equipment, or textbooks using divisionwide computer systems to process and monitor transactions
Carries out all accounting functions for a special fund or community-use activity
Performs related duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by coursework in finance or accounting
Three (3) years of experience in general office administration and accounting, some of which shall have been at a level requiring independent judgment
Knowledge of the funding process in a public school system environment as related to accounting and budgeting
Knowledge of applicable regulations, legislations, and policies
Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting
Ability to input complex transactions with attention to detail and in adherence to timelines
Ability to evaluate and audit financial and budget data for accuracy and compliance
Ability to provide positive customer service and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with culturally diverse students, families, school staff, and community members
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Preferred
Accounting experience in a school environment
