Demand.io is seeking a Principal Product Designer who will operate as a Strategic Peer to the Founder, inventing the interaction physics for the first AI-native commerce engine. The role involves defining visual systems, architecting conversational interfaces, and systematizing design physics to create a unified design system.

Responsibilities

Define the "Glass Box": We reject "Black Box" AI. You will design visual systems that expose the Reasoning Trace of our models. You will turn complex logic trails into intuitive, verifiable interfaces that build trust without overwhelming the user

Architect the Conversational OS: How does a human interface with an AI that doesn't just chat, but actively •shops•? You will design the 0-to-1 interaction models for Product.ai , moving beyond the "Chatbot" paradigm into a rich, multi-modal "Command Center."

Systematize the Physics: You will move beyond ad-hoc screens to build a Unified Design System that governs both human and AI execution. You will define the constraints that allow our interfaces to scale across Web, Mobile, and Agentic surfaces

You are likely a Principal or Staff Designer at a high-craft organization (Airbnb, Linear, Stripe, Apple) who misses the 'Zero to One' phase

You Are a 'Sovereign IC': You don't want to manage people; you want to manage Systems. You pour your own concrete

You Design with Logic: You view design as a high-IQ discipline. You understand that 'Beauty' is the result of maximum efficiency and zero friction. You can debate business logic as fluently as typography

You Respect the Medium: You don't need to write production React, but you understand the DOM, the Box Model, and the cost of every animation. You design 'with' the grain of the technology

You Are a 'Paradigm Inventor': Your portfolio isn't just 'screens'; it's New Primitives. You have solved novel, ambiguous problems where no 'Best Practice' existed yet
