Capstone IT is helping our client find a Senior Mainframe z/OS Engineer who will support and maintain enterprise z/OS environments within a managed services model. This role focuses on day-to-day mainframe operations, system maintenance, customer migrations, OS and subsystem upgrades, and break/fix escalation work.

Responsibilities

Maintain and support customer z/OS environments in a managed services setting
Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents escalated beyond operations teams
Plan and execute customer migrations using tape or replication technologies
Install, configure, and maintain OS, subsystems, and ISV products
Perform OS upgrades, PTF deployment, and major subsystem releases
Support hardware upgrades, LPAR configuration, and capacity expansion
Maintain system documentation, templates, and sandbox/golden environments
Participate as the mainframe SME on infrastructure and roadmap initiatives
Provide occasional after-hours and weekend support

Required

10+ years of hands-on mainframe systems engineering experience
Strong knowledge of z/OS internals, subsystems, and utilities
Experience with HMC, LPAR configuration, and z Systems hardware
Storage experience across JBOD, RAID, SAN, and virtual tape libraries
TCP/IP configuration and troubleshooting (IPv4 required; IPv6 preferred)
Experience with automation, monitoring tools, and printer configurations

Sysplex experience
remote managed services environments
