Responsibilities

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy

Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines

Perform entry level engineering technical activities, analytical / calculation problem solving, and address waterfront technical issues in support of aircraft carrier hull outfitting design, construction, and maintenance

Apply research to the planning, design, development, testing, and installation of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems

Learn how to apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques to solve critical problems specific to shipbuilding

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Preferred

Preferred candidates will have education in civil-structural, marine-ocean, or mechanical, with course work including structural stress analysis fundamentals

Candidates should be comfortable with written and verbal communication and perform well in a team environment

Tools utilized may include NX, MS Office Suite, and other software applications

Prior experience working with finite element analysis, naval shock design, calculations based on structural engineering principles, is a plus, but not required
