Senior Tax Manager - Family Office - $225K++
Henderson Harbor Group is a specialized tax placement division that has successfully advised and placed tax professionals in various roles. They are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to oversee tax planning, compliance, and advisory functions for a prestigious family office in New York City.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic tax planning for the family and related entities, including trusts, partnerships, investment vehicles, foundations, and holding companies
Develop and implement tax-efficient strategies related to investment structures, estate planning, and intergenerational wealth transfer
Monitor federal, state, and local tax law changes; advise leadership on impacts, risks, and opportunities
Provide high-level guidance on complex matters such as SALT issues, passive activity rules, carried interest, M&A transactions, and philanthropic planning
Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and corporate entities; coordinate with external tax advisors as needed
Manage quarterly and annual estimated tax payments for all family members and entities
Ensure timely and accurate delivery of K-1s, 1099s, and all required filings
Oversee ASC 740 considerations for applicable entities
Maintain tax records, workpapers, and documentation for all entities in accordance with best practices
Build and refine internal processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
Act as a liaison with tax authorities during audits and inquiries
Collaborate with investment, accounting, trust & estates, and legal professionals to support holistic family office operations
Serve as a trusted advisor to family members, providing clear communication on tax matters while maintaining utmost discretion and confidentiality
Coordinate and manage relationships with external CPA firms, attorneys, and advisors
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's in Taxation preferred
CPA or JD/LLM highly preferred
8+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally with a blend of public accounting (Big 4 or top-tier firm) and private/family office experience
Strong expertise in high-net-worth individual taxation, flow-through entities, trusts & estates, investment partnerships, and multi-state issues
Experience with complex family structures, private investments, and alternative asset classes (private equity, hedge funds, real estate) is highly desirable
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and operate effectively in a small-team environment
