Ferry Engineer - Relief

The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking a Ferry Engineer for the Maine State Ferry Service. This position involves the operation, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gas engines on marine vessels, ensuring compliance with safety standards and providing public information as needed.

Responsibilities

Providing professional services work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gas engines and auxiliary equipment on marine vessels
Monitoring all operating propulsion machinery and electrical generating facilities on-board vessels
Inspecting, adjusting, and maintaining machinery in accordance with established operational and safety standards
Performing security functions per the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002
Providing information and direction to the public as necessary
Familiar with Ferry Service Vessel’s and engine room operations
Cleaning and maintaining the engine room, auxiliary spaces and various other systems on the vessel
Performing other duties as required by immediate supervisor

Required

Must be familiar with Ferry Service Vessel's and engine room operations
Must be licensed with the USCG as a third assistant engineer or greater or possess a DDE4,000 HP endorsement
Must be in possession of a valid TWIC or be able to get one within 30 days
Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine engines and auxiliary equipment
Required to have a current TWIC Card - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card
U.S. Coast Guard license as a Marine Engineer for the H.P. of largest vessel owned by the State
