Battery Charging Engineer
Global Connect Technologies is seeking a Charging Validation Engineer to validate electric vehicle (EV) charging systems at the whole-vehicle level. This role involves developing and executing validation strategies for AC and DC charging while ensuring compliance with functional requirements and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and execute detailed test cases for charging-related functions, attributes, and use cases, including: Immediate and scheduled charging, Plug & Charge and payment systems, Fast charging preconditioning, Bidirectional charging (V2L AC, V2H DC), Battery Charge Care Mode (BCCM), Charging history, statistics, and analytics, Charging Point of Interest (POI) validation and navigation integration
Translate charging-related system and functional requirements into executable vehicle-level test procedures and validation plans
Benchmark vehicle charging performance across AC and DC fast charging scenarios, including: Range added per unit time, Peak power delivery, Charging curve accuracy and consistency
Lead and coordinate validation trips and test campaigns at proving grounds and public charging stations, covering representative and extreme operating conditions
Drive test execution and data collection using appropriate tools and instrumentation, including: Preconditioning strategies, Route and test scenario design, Data logging strategies, Environmental condition control
Analyze test data and vehicle behavior related to: Charging time and responsiveness, Connector and charger compatibility, Communication robustness and fault handling, Accuracy of charging curves and peak power delivery
Ensure end-to-end traceability between test cases and system requirements using tools such as Codebeamer, Jama, Jira, Polarion, or DOORS
Maintain accurate status reporting for requirement validation and change management
Document validation results through test reports, anomaly tracking, and sign-off matrix updates
Provide clear inputs into release readiness and sign-off decisions
Collaborate closely with charging systems, software, controls, vehicle integration, and systems engineering teams
Communicate test findings clearly and support issue triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of validation blockers
Partner with concept and systems architecture teams to support engineering solutions for functional and integration challenges
Support adoption of systems engineering processes and working methodologies
Support planning and logistics for validation trips and test campaigns, including: Vehicle preparation and configuration, Equipment and instrumentation checklists, Scheduling and coordination with internal teams and external test sites
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
4+ years of experience in vehicle validation, preferably within automotive or EV charging systems
Proven experience in writing test requirements, test cases, and managing requirement changes
Hands-on experience with requirements management tools such as Jama, Polarion, DOORS, MagicDraw, or Codebeamer
Solid understanding of vehicle development processes and automotive-grade standards, particularly related to charging systems
Familiarity with U.S. legal, regulatory, and governance frameworks for EV charging infrastructure and safety
Experience developing and validating products to meet industry regulations and customer expectations
Strong sense of ownership and accountability
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional and global team environments
