Fox Corporation is a leading media company operating various news platforms. They are seeking a Legal Information Specialist to summarize and explain breaking legal news, conduct research, and produce legal analysis for their news coverage.

Responsibilities

Break down newsworthy court cases and legal issues into layman’s terms

Complete high-visibility, high-pressure research requests under tight deadlines

Retrieve, analyze and produce detailed yet digestible research on newsworthy topics

Aid in the production of briefing books and political backgrounders that will be distributed across the organization

Communicate with the Brainroom Director and Assignment Manager on duty consistently, quickly, and reliably

Required

J.D. and Bachelor's degree required

2+ years of experience in a research role or strong internships in a professional live news environment

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including regular weekend hours, early mornings or evenings, and occasional holidays

Proficiency with PACER, Lexis-Nexis, Factiva, Accurint and other research databases

A strong knowledge of criminal law and procedure

Familiarity with both civil legal procedure and the federal court system

Ability to concisely explain case significance, including those before the U.S. Supreme Court

Aptitude in comparing statutes and regulations across jurisdictions, including constructing and updating 50-state summaries on a variety of topics (controlled substances, voting laws, capital punishment, etc.)

Capacity to juggle multiple assignments under tight deadlines and extreme pressure

Strong writing skills

A drive to problem-solve and communicate effectively

A passion for politics and the news
