Senior Development Engineer, Speech and UI
Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc. is seeking a Senior Development Engineer to support Speech and User Interface topics at their Technical Center. The role involves leading testing, validation, and verification of telematics components, ensuring high software maturity, and delivering on-time features for the Speech Dialog System and User Interface.

Responsibilities
Provide expert technical support to the US Vehicle Integration team by supporting the testing, verification, and validation of telematics components, more specifically MBUX voice control/recognition and text-to-speech, and delivering feedback to various development teams, including RD HQ, MBRDNA, and suppliers/business partners
Assist with resolving technical problems, discover and report defects, support documentation and traces, and promptly communicate technical and quality related issues obtained from the testing, validation and verification process
Regularly participate in meetings and test drives, as well as independently plan and execute development and Ad-Hoc testing sessions
Develop and strengthen a trustful working relationship with stakeholders
Ensure testing procedures, test cases, testing environments, special tools, and diagnostic equipment are maintained and configured/revised accordingly with requirements from RD HQ
Partner closely within the US Vehicle Integration department, respective RD HQ teams, suppliers, and business partners to ensure pertinent test results are provided in a timely manner
Provide support for development workshops and technical support within company, department and respective RD HQ teams
Take initiative to identify, investigate, and communicate high impact change requests/enhancements
Administer Unix-based environments via SSH, performing system modifications, updates, and various management tasks
Integrate new Electronic Control Units (ECUs), encompassing vehicle modification, installation, replacement, on-vehicle software deployment, and calibration for development ECUs
Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle issues, proactively taking ownership of complex challenges to ensure accurate test environment setup and valid testing by thoroughly investigating and implementing effective solutions
Instruct and mentor junior engineers on technical and testing related tasks
Driving Mercedes-Benz prototype vehicles is a regular function for this position
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering consider; Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study
5+ years of relevant professional experience
Experience in the development or validation of embedded systems in the automotive
Ability to understand software and hardware requirements and vehicle architectures
Deep knowledge and understanding of Voice Recognition and User Interface (UI) concepts and implementation across all applications
Basic knowledge of electrical/electronic systems and their functions
Experience in updating ECU's as well as vehicle diagnostics and related tools
Good analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and without regular management support to determine tasks, priorities and focus
Frequent use of speech, vision, hearing, use of hands for computer use, driving and presentations
Frequent sitting, standing and reaching with hands
Able to work from Long Beach, CA and relocate to Atlanta, GA in July 2026
Valid Driver's License
Preferred
Previous Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier work experience
Background in HMI, Voice Recognition, and User Interface
Understanding of cloud API integration, including the use of tools for interacting with and verifying API functionality
Scripting and automation skills to enhance operational efficiency under high-demand
Strong technical knowledge of Mercedes-Benz vehicles
Familiarity with online/offline voice recognition methodology, architecture, and speech engines
ISTQB Testing certification
