THECB - Data Analyst IV, Data Visualization
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is seeking a Data Analyst IV specializing in Data Visualization. This role involves performing advanced data analysis, visualization, and research work, while assisting in the development of a data analytics environment that aligns with the agency's goals.
Responsibilities
Consults with internal and external customers to identify user needs given the limitations of the data
Presents data visually in a way that presents a compelling story to the end user
Makes large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable, and usable
Enhances the use and availability of data for the DMR team, THECB staff, and external audiences
Transforms, improves, and integrates data, depending on the business requirements
Combines data sets from multiple sources using tools that enable automation
Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations on data revisions
May develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other strategies that optimize efficiency and quality
May establish and maintain standard work procedures governing the appropriate use of data
Provides training, mentorship, and supervision of other data analysts
Performs related work as assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in quantitative social sciences, data science, business analytics, statistics, computer science, or a related field
2+ years' experience in data visualization, analysis, research, compilation, and/or reporting work
2+ years of experience with Microsoft analytics tools, including Power BI, Power Apps or similar
Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud-based data environments
Graduate degree(s) in the coursework mentioned above may substitute for up to one year of experience in Microsoft analytics tools
Ability to compile, review, and analyze data and see the 'bigger picture'; to prepare reports; to maintain accuracy and attention to detail; and to communicate effectively
Knowledge of statistics, data models, database design development, data visualization, best practices, and security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data
Ability to analyze data sets; run queries and write reports
Ability to present information in ways that resonate with audiences of varied levels of data literacy
Skilled in the use of applicable analysis and visualization software, in analyzing problems and devising effective solutions, in conducting data searches, in evaluating and translating large amounts of data, and in critical thinking
Proven ability to produce user-friendly data visualizations that enhance the audience's understanding of trends and patterns
Excellent analytical skills
Ability to apply critical thinking, look at numbers, trends, and data, and come to new conclusions based on the findings
Preferred
Experience with education data
Experience with statistical tools such as R, Python, or SAS
Microsoft PL-300 Certification
