They are seeking an experienced legal professional to serve as the Director of Legal Affairs, responsible for shaping the platform's legal structure and ensuring compliance with various regulations as the company scales.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Founder/CEO and development team to design and implement legally sound structures for platform features, including Wills/Trust creation/updates (TurboTax-like questionnaires, state-specific PDFs, signing/notary integrations) and JAG-aligned elements (e.g., DoW personnel systems compliance)
Provide expert guidance on IP strategy, including patent filings for proprietary innovations (e.g., AI Digital Corpus safeguards, Casualty Assistance Automation)
Ensure platform-wide compliance with DoW standards, GDPR, HIPAA, fiduciary laws, and state-specific estate regulations; mitigate risks in scaling from DoW to nationwide/international
Develop workflows for Designated Trustee Services (executing Benefactor-requested tasks post-transition, including confidential directives not divulged to beneficiaries) and Milestone Messages (manual delivery by team at specified times to intended recipients, requiring trustee-like execution even if not explicitly requested, to fulfill Benefactor vision)
Strictly prevent any unauthorized practice of law (UPL) by the platform, ensuring all legal processes involve licensed oversight and human verification
Upon funding, build and lead the CarryOn Legal Team (attorney advisor, paralegal, admin) for ongoing verifications (e.g., Death Certificates, Wills/Trusts, transition notifications)
Oversee legal aspects of partnerships (e.g., state attorneys, notaries) and contracts (e.g., OTA pursuits, vendor agreements)
Advise on corporate governance, cybersecurity policies, and ethical AI frameworks as the company grows
Qualification
Required
Experience in legal compliance, IP protection, regulatory adherence, and risk management
Ability to collaborate with development teams to design legally sound structures
Expertise in IP strategy and patent filings
Knowledge of state-specific estate regulations
Experience in preventing unauthorized practice of law
Ability to oversee legal aspects of partnerships and contracts
Experience advising on corporate governance
Preferred
Experience as a JAG officer
Background in estate planning and legal compliance
Familiarity with GDPR, HIPAA, and fiduciary laws
Experience in building and leading legal teams
Knowledge of cybersecurity policies and ethical AI frameworks
