Technical Documentation Specialist
DV7 Engineering is a pioneering company specializing in next-generation solutions across various domains including aerospace and medical devices. They are seeking a meticulous and technically adept Documentation Specialist to create and manage technical documentation that meets industry standards and facilitates communication between engineers and end-users.
Responsibilities
Author and Maintain Critical Documentation: Create, update, and manage a wide range of technical documents, including:
Verification and validation deliverables
Test Reports (The Evidence): Compiling execution logs, screenshots, and raw data into formal reports. You must ensure all deviations (test failures) are documented, root-caused, and resolved before release
Traceability Matrices: Establish and maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) to ensure every line of code or hardware feature traces back to a specific requirement and risk control measure
Risk Integration: Collaborate with the Risk Management team to document FMEAs/HazOps and ensure risk controls are properly defined in technical requirements
User Manuals, Installation Guides, and Service Instructions
API and Software Development Documentation
System Requirements and Specifications (SRS)
Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions
Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and Bill of Materials (BOM) documentation
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work directly with hardware engineers, software developers, project managers, product owners, and quality assurance to gather information, understand functionality, and validate documentation accuracy
Adhere to Standards: Ensure all documentation complies with relevant internal style guides, industry standards (e.g., ISO, ATA, FDA), and regulatory requirements
Manage Documentation Lifecycle: Control document versioning, release, and archival using designated systems (e.g., ShareFile, Internal QMS.)
Improve Processes: Continuously identify and implement improvements to documentation tools, templates, and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality
Expert user of documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Markdown, or similar)
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
3+ years of experience in technical writing within an engineering, manufacturing, or software development environment
Understanding of the V-Model software development lifecycle (SDLC)
Familiarity with embedded systems (microcontrollers, firmware, and hardware logic)
Experience with document control/management systems and version control (e.g., Git)
Ability to quickly learn and document complex technical systems
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an impeccable eye for detail, grammar, and consistency
Proven ability to structure information for different audiences (end-users, technicians, engineers)
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously
A collaborative, proactive, and curious mindset
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred
Experience in Medical Devices (ISO 13485), Aerospace (DO-178C, S1000D), Automotive, Defense
Familiarity with basic engineering concepts (e.g., electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, software architecture)
Experience with automated documentation generation tools (e.g., Doxygen, Sphinx)
Experience with scripting or light programming for documentation automation (Python, JavaScript)
Portfolio of writing samples demonstrating ability to document complex technical subjects
