VP Risk - Director Level
CFE International is a Houston-based affiliate of Comisión Federal de Electricidad, focused on supplying natural gas for power generation. The Vice President of Risk will lead the development and oversight of credit-risk and energy-risk management strategies, ensuring alignment with the company’s operational goals.

Responsibilities
Define and evolve the enterprise credit-risk appetite, energy-risk parameters, approval matrices, and limit frameworks in partnership with the Chief Risk Officer
Ensure the credit portfolio aligns with operational and commercial objectives through ongoing performance reviews, limit refreshes, and portfolio rebalancing
Oversee deep-dive credit reviews, enhanced due diligence, covenant design, rating migrations, and collateral triggers to mitigate risk
Architect CSA frameworks, optimize thresholds, and conduct margin-period-of-risk analyses to reduce unsecured exposures and optimize funding costs
Lead development, validation, and refinement of credit-risk models (PD, LGD, EAD), scenario analyses, stress tests, and interactive dashboards for executive decision-making
Continuously enhance credit-risk policies, automated workflows, and data integrations; champion ETRM enhancements with IT
Collaborate with Front Office, Treasury, Legal, and Commercial on new products, contract negotiations, and market expansions—embedding risk considerations at deal inception
Build, mentor, and grow a high-impact credit and energy-risk analytics team across all levels, fostering expertise in quantitative methods, governance, and strategic advisory
Ensure frameworks meet U.S. and cross-border regulations (FERC, IFRS 9/CECL), ISDA/NAESB standards, and internal audit recommendations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field
8+ years in credit-risk management or quantitative analytics, including a minimum of 5 years in a strategic leadership role
Deep expertise in energy or commodity markets—natural-gas background highly desirable
Deep understanding of credit risk frameworks, portfolio oversight, and credit structuring
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of analytical tools such as Power BI, Power Query, or equivalent platforms
Exceptional strategic thinker with strong communication skills to influence senior stakeholders
Proven track record driving process innovation, automation, and data-driven decision-making
Collaborative leadership style, service-oriented mindset, and meticulous attention to detail
Preferred
Experience in natural gas or broader energy commodities
Familiarity with U.S. and cross-border credit risk regulations and gas and standards
Understanding of key commodity contracts and documents such as NAESB, ISDA, guarantees, letters of credit, etc
Knowledge of ETRM systems (e.g., Allegro)
Strong bilingual communication (English & Spanish)
Discretion in handling sensitive information
Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity
Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure
