Research Associate, In Vivo Pharmacology

Septerna is a biotechnology company based in South San Francisco, CA, focused on developing life-changing medicines through innovative drug discovery. The Research Associate will be responsible for conducting in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro studies to support the advancement of the company's drug discovery pipeline, working collaboratively to design experiments and analyze data.

Responsibilities

Design and execute in vivo pharmacology studies to understand therapeutic mechanism in relevant disease models
Generate, analyze, document, and help interpret data to establish functional PK/PD relationships
Work collaboratively with in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo models to determine the mechanism of action of drug candidates
Be a member of multiple project teams and present results in lab, team and department meetings
Perform in literature searches, read and interpret papers to help design and trouble-shoot in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro experiments
Help in authoring in vivo pharmacology study designs, protocols, and reports to support regulatory filings
Follow all company policies/practices, and maintain accurate records and notebooks

Required

BSc in Pharmacology, Toxicology, or related biological science
1-3 years direct hands-on experience with in vivo studies or disease models in academia or the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries
Ability to be hands on and work directly with rodent models for dosing (PO, SC, IP, IV) and blood collection
Experience working with other scientists to analyze, interpret, and present data
Ability to collaborate in writing protocols and trouble-shooting biological experiments
Detail-oriented and organized, with strong interpersonal skills for clear and effective communication - ability to proactively engage and collaboration with colleagues

Preferred

Experience working with primary cells or ex vivo models
Experience working with generation of surgical models in rodents (e.g. osmotic minipump implantation or stereotaxic surgery)
Previous work on therapeutic discovery and development programs in the field of endocrine and metabolic diseases
Experience working with vendors and CROs to execute studies, analyze data, and generate reports
ELN experience with Benchling and data analysis with GraphPad Prism
