LHH is working with a heavy construction company seeking a Capital Asset Accounting Manager to lead the lifecycle management of a capital-intensive asset portfolio. This role involves managing asset accounting, overseeing CapEx governance, and providing strategic insights for financial clarity.

Responsibilities

Manage the full capital asset lifecycle — acquisition, CIP/WIP, in‑service, maintenance status, transfers, impairments, and disposals — with complete accuracy, documentation, and audit readiness
Lead asset accounting for month‑end and year‑end close: subledger ownership, roll‑forwards, depreciation runs, reconciliations, and financial statement support
Oversee CapEx governance: track spending vs. approved budgets, partner with Project Managers and Operations to ensure timely project closeout and capitalization
Set and maintain depreciation methods and useful lives by asset class; monitor salvage values and evaluate adjustments as assets age or operating conditions change
Coordinate property tax activities with external partners, ensuring accurate asset rolls, timely filings, and proper assessment handling
Conduct physical asset inventories & internal audits to verify location, condition, and existence; resolve discrepancies and strengthen internal controls
Improve policies and processes: maintain GAAP‑aligned fixed asset accounting policies, strengthen internal controls, and identify opportunities for workflow efficiency within the ERP
Provide strategic insight: analyze utilization trends, maintenance economics, replacement needs, and lifecycle costs to support repair‑vs‑replace and investment decisions

Required

Experience in heavy, capital-intensive industries (e.g., heavy construction, industrial services, manufacturing, utilities, logistics, equipment-intensive operations)
Deep fixed asset accounting expertise: CIP/WIP, in-service placement, depreciation, transfers, retirements, impairments, and audit support
ERP proficiency with a major platform (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, lookups, large dataset analysis
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Operations, Project Management, and Finance leadership
Ability to work fully onsite in North Austin

Preferred

Experience in heavy construction, heavy equipment/fleet environments, or multi-site operations
Exposure to property tax filings and asset-related assessments
Experience implementing or improving accounting policies, controls, or ERP processes
CPA or progress toward a professional certification
