District Sign Technician IV

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a District Sign Technician IV to coordinate and perform advanced skilled transportation related work. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, as well as serving as a lead worker to train other technicians.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assists in scheduling and assigning work
Serves as a lead worker by advising, training, and instructing employees in shop policies and procedures; acting as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions
Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures

Required

5 years in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
Valid driver's license
Must have a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class 'A' CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment

Performing calculations to include material and labor estimates and expenses
Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
Required to work weekends and holidays
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements
