Intern, R&D Undergraduate Year Round - Exp Structural Dynamics, Remote

Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, seeking a student intern in their Engineering Sciences Center. The intern will contribute to understanding the dynamic behavior of structures, assist in experiments, process data, and support various projects related to structural dynamics and mechanics.

Responsibilities

Assist staff members in structural dynamics, vibration, acoustics, shock, or solid mechanics testing
Assist in processing data using various software systems, including MatLab, Python, LabView, SolidWorks, etc
Conduct directed research current state of the art in these fields utilizing scientific literature
Help plan and design experiments, write reports in PowerPoint or Word
Partner with Staff and graduate interns to support experimental projects

Required

Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Preferred

Experience with vibrations, acoustics, structural mechanics, materials science, modal analysis, non-destructive testing, or structural dynamics laboratory testing
Strong verbal and communication skills
Ability to interact well with fellow technical workers of diverse technical background
Desired degree majors: Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Optical, or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics
