Hamilton County, Ohio is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineering Technician to join their Engineer's Office. The role involves conducting and analyzing traffic engineering studies, managing traffic control devices, and providing technical support for engineering decisions and policy compliance.

Responsibilities

Independently conduct and analyze traffic engineering studies including traffic volume counts, speed studies, crash data analysis, sight distance evaluations, and parking studies
Perform engineering evaluations and develop technical recommendations in accordance with OMUTCD, ODOT, and FHWA standards
Lead the evaluation, placement, and documentation of traffic control devices, including signs, pavement markings, and related safety features
Manage the traffic sign retroreflectivity program, including inspections, compliance documentation, and coordination with staff
Conduct field investigations and safety evaluations in response to citizen concerns, crash trends, and service requests, and prepare defensible written findings
Review and provide technical comments on development plans, driveway permits, and temporary traffic control plans
Prepare technical memoranda, reports, correspondence, and recommendations supporting engineering decisions and policy compliance
Operate and oversee the use of traffic data collection equipment and traffic engineering software systems
Maintain and manage traffic engineering databases, asset inventories, and GIS-related data
Coordinate traffic engineering activities with engineers, contractors, utilities, local jurisdictions, and regulatory agencies
Serve as a technical resource to Engineering Technicians and assist with training and mentoring
Respond to inquiries from the public, elected officials, and other agencies regarding traffic safety and operational issues
Assist engineers with roadway safety audits, capital improvement projects, and long-range planning efforts
Perform related duties as assigned

Required

Must possess a valid state of residency driver's license
Must remain insurable under the County's vehicle insurance policy
Advanced knowledge of traffic engineering principles, traffic control devices, and applicable laws, standards, and manuals
Ability to independently evaluate traffic and safety issues and develop technically sound recommendations
Strong technical writing and documentation skills
Ability to coordinate multiple projects and prioritize workload
Proficiency with traffic data collection equipment, asset management systems, and GIS applications
