They are seeking new Partners to provide strategic legal counsel to early and mid-stage companies while managing client relationships and legal matters end-to-end.
Responsibilities
Own client relationships and matters end-to-end
Serve as a trusted advisor to founders, executives, and in-house counsel, with full responsibility for scoping, strategy, execution, timelines, and communication
Deliver strategic, business-minded legal counsel
Provide proactive, commercially practical advice grounded in strong issue-spotting, sound judgment, and alignment with clients’ real-world goals
Run efficient, high-quality legal processes
Manage deals, contracts, and disputes with discipline - covering diligence, risk assessment, documentation, and decision-making - while protecting clients and the firm
Maintain strong matter hygiene and financial discipline
Ensure clarity around scope, budgets, responsiveness, and expectations, and communicate early with the Managing Partners on risks, changes, or resourcing needs
Staff, supervise, and collaborate effectively
Leverage the firm’s bench by engaging subject-matter experts, guiding other attorneys as appropriate, and avoiding siloed representation
Participate actively in firm collaboration and knowledge-sharing
Contribute meaningfully to weekly firm matters meetings, including updates, cross-sell spotting, and collaborative problem-solving
Grow and steward a portable, active book of business
Maintain and expand client relationships through excellent service, while identifying opportunities to broaden CGL’s support within client organizations
Uphold and represent the CGL brand
Act as a partner-level steward of the firm through professionalism, responsiveness, integrity, and consistent service in all client and market interactions
Support firm growth, culture, and operations
Follow firm processes (conflicts, timekeeping, communications), support recruiting and onboarding, and participate in business development and marketing efforts as appropriate
Qualification
Required
8+ years of experience with a Big Law and/or premier boutique background (in-house experience a plus)
A portable, active book of business or a clearly demonstrable pipeline capable of meeting minimum targets
Substantive expertise in one or more core practice areas relevant to CGL's client base
Strong legal judgment and issue-spotting skills; able to identify material risk, prioritize effectively, and guide clients through decisions with confidence
Excellent drafting and execution skills; produces clear, practical work product and drives matters to completion
Business-minded advisor who understands how companies operate and aligns legal guidance with commercial realities
Trusted client-facing presence: clear, professional, responsive, and adaptable in communication style
Comfortable operating autonomously in a remote, high-trust environment while prioritizing collaboration to avoid siloed advice
Highly organized, disciplined, and accountable; able to manage work, systems, and expectations without oversight
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school
Active U.S. bar license in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction)
8+ years of experience
Big Law experience required
Portable, active book of business with a minimum two-year track record
Experience advising early to mid-stage companies across various business and legal needs
Preferred
In-house experience strongly preferred (but not required)
