Responsibilities

Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control (Internal/External) and pipeline integrity
Cathodic protection includes recording annual pipe-to-soil readings, rectifier readings, bond readings, road casing status, insulated effectiveness with an Allegro data recorder. Analyze and make recommendations based on the data collected
Troubleshooting rectifier units, remote monitoring, perform interference testing, and overseeing cathodic protection installations
Supervise contractor on new groundbed installations and close interval survey(s)
Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in-line inspection tools, etc
Conduct industry tests, measurements and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection equipment
Responsible for all activities related to internal corrosion control program for assigned pipeline areas
Collect all internal corrosion liquid samples at liquid sample pots and at pig traps
Collect and replace corrosion coupons from designated corrosion coupon sites
Complete in field liquid sample chemical analysis and bacterial testing
Load all data to the Kinder Morgan internal corrosion database (TSIMS) on a timely basis
Maintain all field internal corrosion equipment
Set corrosion inhibitor injection rates as prescribed by the Corrosion Support Group
Witness and document internal inspection of pipeline sections including piping in facilities
Collect data required to define the nature of internal corrosion threat and the effectiveness of mitigation actions
Prepare and participate in internal and external annual review meetings
Document all related work associated with performing and maintaining regulatory compliance and operating and maintenance procedures
Prepare and participate in regulatory inspections
The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

Required

High school diploma, or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of corrosion control experience
Approved educational courses in all phases of corrosion including internal, external, and atmospheric corrosion
Understand and operate all corrosion related instrumentation
Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects
Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems
Proficient with computer skills (MS Office, operating systems, company software, and technical systems)
Basic Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, etc.)
Experience with PCS-CPDM compliance software
Grade level of job depends on prior experience as a skilled technician and industry related experience
Proficient with electronic test instruments
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
Achieve and maintain all qualifications, certifications, and progression requirements applicable to the job classification
Completion of any site-specific technical training may be applicable
Strong verbal and written communications skills are required
Must be accountable and take direction from Managers, keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance; focus attention on details; follow work rules
Must be able to pass Operator Qualification requirements (OQ)
Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is necessary
Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction
Ability to operate and maintain chemical injection and pressure access equipment
Well-balanced interpersonal skills. Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment
In order to meet the various maintenance and general operational requirements, a mechanical aptitude is necessary
Safe work practice and active participation in the safety program
Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy
Work is performed outside in varying and sometimes extreme weather situations
Perform physical labor in a variety of extreme climatic conditions, including walking, bending, stooping, climbing tanks, digging, lifting and general manual labor
Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, negotiating rough terrain, areas of loose rock and working in confined spaces
Must be able to climb tanks (averaging about 60 steps) safely and without assistance
Job requires visual acuity to see and work at a computer screen, read gauges and other measuring devices, as well as the ability to hear various alarms
Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities
Job entails call-outs on a 24-hour emergency basis and an ability to work long hours, weekends, nights and holidays, when required
Must carry a cell phone and respond to calls in a timely manner 24/7
Overnight travel may be required
Position subject to 24-hour call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Overtime required and extended work hours in cases of emergencies
Depending upon the location and workload, travel may be required
May be required to work alone (unsupervised)
May be exposed to some crude oil products containing chemicals which may be related to certain types of illnesses or reproductive toxicity
Some emit vapors under certain conditions, are flammable and may be explosive under certain circumstances
Must be able to frequently, enter confined spaces, climb to and work from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, walkways, etc
Exposure to smells and vapor associated with crude petroleum products
Climatic conditions are determined by location assignment and may include severe seasonal changes including both winter conditions with frequent snow or extreme summer heat and sun, depending upon geographic location
Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist (occasional)

Preferred

AMPP certification (CP-2 and Internal Corrosion)
Proficient with PCS CPDM Software
Working knowledge of AMPP standards
Experience in all phases of corrosion control and pipeline integrity as described in the Job Responsibilities
Experience with crude oil pipeline internal corrosion control programs
Knowledge of company policies, TRRC, and DOT regulations
Knowledge and experience with safe handling practices of liquid products
