GASTON COUNTY SCHOOLS is seeking a Teacher Assistant for Pleasant Ridge Gifted and Talented Academy. The role involves supporting educational activities in the classroom, assisting teachers with instruction, managing student behavior, and performing various clerical tasks to enhance the learning environment.

Primary/Secondary Education

Responsibilities

Assists in the preparation of materials
Takes initiative with instructional duties
Assists the teacher with instruction, whether whole class, small group, and/or individual
Checks students’ work accurately
Keeps students on task
May fill in for the teacher, as needed
Uses appropriate behavioral interventions
Participates in professional learning related to these duties
Treats students with respect
Successfully assists students with assignments
Compile and analyze data on individual and county-wide school discipline issues
Maintain files and provide reports to local administrators related to school discipline issues
Assist in the development of behavior plans
Work with teachers and school administrators to identify ‘at-risk’ students
Attends Crisis Intervention Monthly Care Meetings
Attends Child Family Treatment meetings
Attends weekly MTSS meetings
Assists Counselor with Section 504’s
Conducts small group/one-on-one therapeutic meetings
Conducts classroom observations for identified students
Assists in creating safety plans
Conducts therapeutic walks and talks with students as needed
Assists in communicating the mental health therapeutic treatment of students to parents
Assists students, parents, and schools with the transition-out process
Adheres to all components of the Bus Driver Agreement
Follows all parts of the Bus Driver Handbook
Eagerly accepts special driving assignments
Completes all bus reports accurately as assigned
Successfully instructs students on the basics of computer skills
Successfully guides students through computerized programs that enhance the school’s curriculum
Successfully trains teachers in all aspects of Microsoft Office and computerized programs
Previews software and advises administrators on quality and alignment to Common Core and Essential Standards
Understands and troubleshoots system operations, networking, and system-wide programs
Maintains files of general records, data files, documents, correspondence, forms, index cards, reports, and other materials; posts information to departmental records according to standard procedures
Answer incoming telephone calls and route them to the proper person or department; answer questions regarding routine matters; perform routine clerical and typing duties
Makes arithmetic calculations manually or by use of a calculator according to established methods
Transcribes information onto forms, processes letters, memoranda, reports, tabulations, statements, various card records, and other materials from rough draft or detailed instructions, if needed
Resolves problems of medium difficulty with little assistance
Occasionally develops or revises procedures for non-complex work
Completes forms, permits, notices, or form letters with designated or routine information, if needed
Operates copying machines, adding machines, personal computers, and other office equipment
Receives standardized reports and compiles data into summary or consolidated forms
Performs a variety of minor administrative tasks in relieving a supervisor of office details
May be required to assist the public at a counter, giving information and answering questions regarding school programs
Performs duties with limited supervision
School preparation and determination of who takes specific tests and works with scheduling of all testing modifications (work with SSMT, EC, and applicable personnel)
Attends pre-testing meetings held by the Director of Testing and staff (mandatory participation)
Fulfills requirements provided by the Director of Testing.  Makes necessary preparations for each testing event – secure test administrators, test proctors; count out books/pencils/other materials; conduct training; secure approval of principal or designee regarding all plans for the testing event; secure classroom space and appropriate atmosphere for each testing event
Coordinates events on testing days using guidelines provided by the Director of Testing
Completes follow-up activities after tests are given – secures test materials and assures safety and security of testing materials; returns materials; keeps records as specified by the Director of Testing
Assists school counselors with student registration and input of schedules
Assists school counselors with requesting records (transfers into the school).  Assists school counselors with record requests of students who have transferred out of the school
Adheres to procedures for safe and proper record keeping, maintaining the security of student records at all times
Assists with duties in the front office of the school as assigned by the Principal (these duties should not interfere with the primary duty of the Test Coordinator)

Required

High School diploma required
Minimum of 48 semester hours from a regionally accredited college/university or an Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited college
OR 96 CEU's after 2002 and passing Work Keys Reading (Workplace Documents) test with a 4 of higher, Applied Mathmatics test with a 4 or higher, and Business Writing with a 3 or higher
Possess Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain the CDL and drive the bus as a substitute driver or regular driver, if advertised as part of the duties
