Responsibilities

Partner with hospital faculty and Foundation staff to produce high-quality donor-facing products
Serve as a collaborative and proactive member of the Editorial & Development Strategy team to write, edit and produce Marketing and Communications projects
Serve as a resource to elevate writing across Children’s National Hospital Foundation
Engage in high-level research to prepare accurate, compelling proposals, reports and other products that advance fundraising priorities to support patients and families
Lead communications for events, campaigns and other Foundation functions
Use measurement, recording and project management systems to ensure clear, accurate reporting of solicitation and stewardship activities
Provide the highest level of service to internal and external constituent groups, including donors, board members, hospital leadership, faculty and vendors
Ensure that messaging, funding requests and stewardship reports meet the highest level of accuracy, quality and attentiveness to donor interests, wishes and needs
Actively manage portfolio of projects, deliver finished work in a timely and high-quality manner
Work carefully to produce, review and seek reviews for materials for quality assurance
Set and clearly communicate team goals and priorities in alignment with departmental goals and budgets
Develop the budget and assign resources to meet the team goals
Provide the resources and guidance required for employees to perform effectively
Develop procedures to ensure high safety and quality, and course-correct as needed
Identify customers’ needs and ensure service excellence in meeting those needs
Be the link between the department and the team in defining the strategies to meet team goals
Provide prompt and clear feedback to staff and support their performance
Ensure team adherence to organizational regulations
Manage the working environment to promote productivity and motivation
Represent the team in clearing obstacles to high performance
Hire staff and develop their capabilities
Monitor and promote strong employee engagement
Encourage and share new ways of making the right work easier to do
Recognize and share incremental improvements in operations
Promote the success of organizational and department initiatives by clearly aligning programs to the mission

Required

Bachelor's Degree (Required)
5 years experience writing in a professional setting (Required)
3 years experience in development (fundraising, donor relations) preferably in a healthcare setting (Required)
Outstanding research and interviewing skills
Excellent writing and editing skills; delivery of clear, concise, compelling copy
Ability to translate complex pediatric research and clinical information
Knack for finding and telling compelling stories
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
Versatility and flexibility; able to communicate through a variety of platforms
Strong organizational and project management skills
Attentiveness to detail; impeccable accuracy; consistency of style and tone
Commitment to editorial excellence and organizational mission
Strong oral communication skills
Ability to use AP style
Customer service-oriented work style
Ability to mentor and edit junior writers
