Fiber Splicer Trainee

As a Fiber Splicer Trainee, you will develop a strong working knowledge of various cable types and gain hands-on experience in testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks.

Responsibilities

Following all safety procedures, wearing appropriate PPE, and learning to perform quality work in a safe and efficient manner
Testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks for continuity and performance
Operating fiber testing equipment and resolving common network issues
Prepping and installing fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.)
Using fusion splicers and test equipment such as OTDR (1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM), OLTS, Max Tester, and Power Meters
Understanding fiber design, documentation, light levels, and dB loss
Performing groundman duties on outdoor utility construction sites, including site clearing, spot digging, and assisting crews as needed

Required

Safety-minded — you make safe practices and PPE compliance a top priority
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record for the past 3 years (CDL preferred)
Current DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one
1 year of experience working outdoors in all types of weather
6 months - 1 year of experience in telecom construction or a similar industry (utilities, electrical, construction, etc.)
Positive attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow
Able to take direction and work effectively in a team environment
Hands-on problem solver with a track record of delivering quality work
Flexible and open to a variety of shifts, including overtime and participation in an on-call rotation as needed
Supporting after-hours or emergency response work as part of an on-call rotation
