Responsibilities
Supervise, mentor, and coach a team of I&C Engineers. This includes overseeing both Senior and Junior Engineers to ensure technical accuracy and professional development
Provide technical guidance, set priorities, and support professional development
Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for instrumentation, PLC, valve and actuator assemblies, fire & gas, and related control systems
Oversee development and review of maintenance procedures for instrumentation and equipment controls
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) regarding loss production event investigations related to I&C
Lead the alarm management process which includes interfacing with operations and process engineering to provide a healthy alarm management program
Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and Process Hazard Analysis reviews
Define, review, and approve instrumentation and equipment control scope for large capital, MOC, and small cap/brownfield projects
Provide technical oversight for deliverables such as instrument specifications, automation and valve/actuator design
Approve detailed instrument/control design drawings and specification sheets
Resolve instrumentation and design issues identified during operation and post-startup
Support Turnaround preparation and execution to deliver a safe and reliable outcome
Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., OSHA, FERC, DOT/PHMSA, TCEQ)
Maintain accurate Process Safety Information, including instrumentation and equipment documentation (PI&D’s, Cause and Effects etc.)
As required, support development and enforcement of corporate/site standards, procedures, and cybersecurity requirements
Stay current with emerging technologies, industry best practices, and RAGAGEP requirements
Support HS&E policies and Management of Change processes
Perform inspections and audits to ensure safe operating conditions
Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the Facilities Engineering Manager or VP of Engineering
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or automation engineering
15+ years of experience in instrumentation, automation, or electrical controls in LNG, petrochemical, or related heavy process industries
Hands-on expertise various instrumentation types, valve assemblies, ESD systems, PLCs, and Fire & Gas systems
Minimum of 8 years in plant I&C experience
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
Strong leadership, delegation, and mentoring skills
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and organizational abilities
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Proficiency with MS Office and CMMS (SAP PM or equivalent)
Familiarity with control system cybersecurity standards
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while prioritizing multiple demands
Experience with on Honeywell Experion, Safety Manager and various PLCs or equivalent Safety and distributed control systems
Possess strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines
Possesses knowledge of engineering fundamentals in a particular discipline
Possesses basic knowledge of cross-functional project execution
Preferred
Master's degree in automation, instrumentation, or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
20+ years of instrumentation experience in a plant production setting specific to Petrochemical, Refining and/or LNG facilities
Functional Safety Professional (FSP) or Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE)
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas
7+ years' experience with Honeywell DCS platforms
