Responsibilities
Lead the full engineering design of C&I solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) systems from early-stage feasibility through Issued-For-Construction (IFC) drawings
Develop and direct system layout, electrical design, and equipment selection to maximize energy production, reliability, and project economics
Produce and review detailed electrical and structural drawings including site plans, single-line diagrams, stringing, grounding, and interconnection layouts
Perform and oversee energy modeling, system sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit, and equipment loading calculations
Develop and maintain standardized design criteria, templates, and engineering best practices to improve quality, speed, and scalability
Serve as the technical lead during project handoffs between Development, Pre-Construction, and Construction
Manage outside engineering support including drawing review and value engineering
Support interconnection applications, utility coordination, and AHJ permitting through accurate, code-compliant designs
Review EPC, equipment, and subcontractor submittals to ensure compliance with design intent and technical standards
Provide engineering support during construction, including RFIs, field changes, and as-built documentation
Collaborate with the Battery and Finance teams to ensure systems are designed to meet both technical and financial performance targets
Mentor more junior engineers and designers, elevating the technical strength of the engineering team
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience designing and engineering Commercial & Industrial solar PV systems
Deep knowledge of NEC, utility interconnection standards, and AHJ permitting requirements
Strong experience with rooftop, ground-mount, and carport C&I solar designs
Proficiency with Helioscope, ProCore, PVsyst, AutoCAD, and related solar design tools
Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, utility requirements, and equipment datasheets
Strong understanding of constructability, cost drivers, and schedule impacts in C&I solar projects
Comfortable working cross-functionally with Development, Pre-Construction, Finance, and Construction teams
Preferred
Experience designing or integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) strongly preferred
