Designer / Drafter

COMPA Industries, Inc. is seeking a Designer to support the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory within the Accelerator Physics & Superconducting Technology Division. The Designer will provide mechanical design and drafting support, producing high-quality designs, 3D models, and detailed drawings while collaborating with engineering staff on accelerator and superconducting technology projects.

Responsibilities

Prepare mechanical designs and engineering drawings using NX1980 CAD and Teamcenter
Apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards (1994 or later) accurately and consistently
Develop advanced-level 3D models, layouts, and 2D fabrication drawings
Perform design tolerance and stack-up calculations
Support multiple APS-TD projects, including accelerator systems, superconducting technologies, and related infrastructure
Collaborate directly with engineers to research design concepts, coordinate design development, and resolve technical issues
Specify and select mechanical components and materials appropriate to the project requirements
Follow Fermilab Design/Drafting procedures, quality manuals, and project schedules
Deliver high-quality work products in deadline-driven environments
Incorporate review comments and revisions as directed by Fermilab technical staff

Qualification

Required

Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Mechanical Designer
Demonstrated proficiency in NX1980 CAD (verified via virtual interview)
Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
Proven ability to deliver accurate, high-quality designs under schedule constraints
Strong communication skills for collaboration with engineering teams

Preferred

Experience supporting scientific, laboratory, or DOE-related facilities
Familiarity with accelerator, superconducting, or high-precision mechanical systems
Prior experience working in regulated engineering environments
