Junior Systems Administrator

Responsibilities
Uses defined policies and procedures to design new IT systems or enhance the existing systems to integrate with current and future needs
Tests and evaluates the compatibility and integrations of new systems with existing infrastructure, networks, and applications
Designs models and utilizes analysis and solution development methods, including process maps, flow charts, and diagrams
Supports management with project planning, risk assessment, and project tracking to deliver timely IT solutions within budget
Assists in the administration, installation, and configuration of local and cloud based servers. Monitors system performance and performs routine updates/patches
Assists in managing and troubleshooting LAN/WAN infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, and wireless access points under the guidance of the IT Operations Manager
Assists with application deployments, database maintenance, and legacy system documentation
Executes daily backup operations and assists in maintaining cyber security protocols, including user access controls and threat monitoring
Documents system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and 'institutional knowledge' to build a comprehensive internal technical library
Serves as the Tier 2 escalation point for the Customer Support team for complex hardware or network-related issues
Performs related tasks as required
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
0-2 years experience in IT support or junior technical role
A strong desire to be mentored by senior staff and a proactive approach to mastering new technologies
Knowledge of computer operating systems, equipment, peripherals, and application packages
Knowledge of microcomputer and network troubleshooting techniques
Knowledge of diagnostic tools and online monitoring software
Ability to methodically diagnose technical issues and implement sustainable solutions
Ability to diagnose technical problems and recommend solutions
Ability to comprehend and make inferences from written material
Ability to work independently within established policies and procedures
Ability to maintain accurate records and logs
Ability to watch and read from a computer screen for extended periods of time
Ability to effectively interact with users by listening attentively to user needs and problems
Ability to communicate with both inexperienced users and computer-savvy technical personnel that requires ability to reduce technical information to simple language
Strong interpersonal skills to work in a tiered team environment
