The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Electronics Technician responsible for maintaining electronic equipment and systems at the Manchester VA Medical Center. The role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and providing technical support for complex electronic systems, while also serving as a consultant to engineers and medical personnel.

Responsibilities
Responsible for comprehensive technical support of highly complex electronic systems such as audio/visual - security controls and alarms - nurse call - fire alarm - medical gas controls and alarms - equipment controls - and patient wandering equipment and/or systems
Troubleshoots and corrects system malfunctions on complex microprocessor based systems that have vitally interrelated and sometimes dispersed subsystems
Engages in construction - installation - maintenance - repair - and modification of all types of electronic and communication equipment
Maintains and repairs and determines nature and extent of repairs required by checking equipment for malfunctions - requiring the tracing of wiring - broken or worn parts - leaks - feedback - and interference
This includes patient panels - bulk oxygen tanks - fume hoods - medical air compressors - vacuum pumps - exhaust systems - and Medical Gases monitoring systems
Serves as a technical advisor and consultant to engineers and medical personnel on proper operating of existing equipment - purchase of new instrumentation - planning of new systems - and modification of existing systems to meet special needs
Inspects and evaluates new systems upon receipt to determine that all government regulations - manufacturer specifications - and contract requirements are met
Performing other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
1 year of specialized experience - equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service - that equipped you with the particular knowledge - skills - and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Electronics Technician position to be filled
Knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics - such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory - algebra - and elementary physics
Knowledge of electronic equipment design - development - evaluation - testing - installation - and maintenance
Knowledge of the capabilities - limitations - operations - design - characteristics - and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to - but less than - a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering
Experience assisting in work situations including: Maintenance - Developing maintenance standards and procedures for use by others
Analyzing repair practices and developing procedural instructions for use by others on methods and steps to repair equipment
Planning and directing the installation of complex systems and associated facilities - particularly where there are site selection and construction problems - dealings with contractors and public utilities - and the possible need to modify equipment for novel site characteristics
Designing and analyzing circuits - determining design feasibility - evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions - and collecting performance data
Evaluating the adequacy of equipment for such purposes as repair - calibration - and testing
Developing or evaluating new or modified electronic systems
Completing testing - evaluating data - and determining acceptability of equipment modifications - validity - test procedures and data - or legality of operation
Analyzing and diagnosing faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment
Interpreting circuit wiring - logic cable diagrams - drawings - specifications - and schematics of complete systems and equipment to understand the function and interconnections of the various assemblies and troubleshoot the system
Work as a technician - instructor - inspector - or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory - and of the characteristics - function - operation - and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment
Experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams - a variety of test equipment - and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing - troubleshooting - modifying - designing - calibrating - installing - maintaining - repairing - constructing - developing and instructing on electronic equipment - or similar functions
Experience in developing policies - standards - and procedures for maintenance - installation - or similar functions - provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment
Advanced knowledge - experience and technical support of highly complex electronic systems including but not limited to audio/visual - door access controls - security controls and alarms - nurse call systems - fire alarm - medical gas controls and alarms - equipment controls - patient wandering equipment and systems - and CCTV video surveillance systems
Typical support expectations in this position includes preventive maintenance inspections - maintenance and repair - testing and reporting - calibration - installation - modification - and user training
You must have successfully completed two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree that provided the knowledge - skills - and abilities necessary to do the work of this position
One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study
Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended
You must possess equivalent combinations of specialized experience and graduate education as described that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position
