Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services
Belmont University is seeking an Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services to support international students and visiting scholars in navigating their academic journey while ensuring compliance with immigration regulations. The role involves overseeing day-to-day services, providing immigration advising, and collaborating with various campus offices to create a welcoming environment for international students.

Responsibilities
Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) for F‐1 students and J‐1 exchange visitors: Responsible for maintaining compliance with immigration regulations for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors and staying up-to-date with new federal guidance, regulations, and best practices; Serve as the primary resource for non-immigrant students and scholars; Train Designated School Officials (DSOs) and Alternate Responsible Officers (AROs) on campus on pertinent immigration regulations and processes; Maintain immigration related records and ensure accuracy in SEVIS database; Set policies and procedures for international students to ensure university compliance with current immigration laws and regulations; Liaison with government officials (DOS, USCIS, SEVP, CBP, ICE, DHS) as needed in regards to international students; Create immigration documents for incoming international students and scholars, update records as needed, and register SEVIS records every term
Provide support for international and exchange students: Advise international students on visa compliance, OPT/CPT, cultural adjustment, and other important deadlines (taxes, benefits available, course registration, etc); Strategize and assist with implementing a successful International Student Orientation program, and manage the compulsory international student insurance plan. Develop and lead programming/workshops throughout the year for international students, and visiting scholars on topics such as maintaining F-1/J-1 status, employment authorization, and immigration compliance
Collaborate closely with the Office of Study Abroad and Global Honors on developing, establishing, and maintaining academic exchange/direct enroll agreements with partner international institutions. Assist in education abroad visa advising for study abroad students and help coordinate the Spring Study Abroad Provider Fair. Serve on the International Risk Management committee
Oversee global scholarships: Serve as a point of contact for the Boren and Gilman scholarships and the Peace Corps; Liaison with the Provost's Office, Office of Study Abroad, and other campus partners on streamlining marketing efforts regarding global scholarship opportunities. Serve on the Lumos Travel Award committee
Act as a key campus contact for knowledge of international students' and visiting scholars' unique circumstances and needs. Build campus partnerships to support awareness of services and issues relevant to international students and scholars. Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to support institutional strategic enrollment goals for international students. Assist in setting international student admission requirements and determine which academic programs are appropriate for students. Provide additional support in reviewing, vetting, and maintaining relationships with international recruitment agencies
Provide administrative leadership to the ISSS office: Develop and manage the budget for ISSS. Assist with marketing strategies and social media to increase the visibility of international students. Manage the Campus Community student engagement platform ecosystem, assist with coordinating the International Education Week and Passport Fair activities. Liaison with colleagues at partner institutions through NAFSA, TAIE, and Study TN

Qualification
Required
Knowledge and understanding of immigration laws and international student regulations
Ability to collaborate with various campus offices, faculty, and external partners to support student needs
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student information systems
Analytical and critical thinking abilities
Master's Degree in International Education, Student Affairs in Higher Education or other related field required
3-5 years experience in international student advising required
Preferred
Doctoral Degree preferred
6-8 years preferred
