Central Permitting Technician/Project Coordinator

Responsibilities

Maintains lines of communication between internal staff and external stakeholders throughout a project's timeline
Sets up files in systems; and answers customers questions about process
Oversees the review processes and the timeline concerning commercial projects within the Development Services Department and with other departments that are involved with the project
Assists with the daily functions of all face-to-face premium services
Serves as the customer's process expert regarding customer needs for the project facilitation
Advises the client of the most appropriate and efficient review path for approval of a project
Coordinates with other project coordinators regarding project milestones and assists in developing a timeline to meet all conditions of approval
Maintains all forms of communication with clients including, but not limited to, the webpages, applications, and other documentation
Assists customers with project scheduling and determining timing requirements to meet conditions of approval
Maintains communication with the applicable reviewers so as to understand issues related to the project; helps customers and design team work from one step to another
Collaborates with other team members and Department review staff and managers to provide the best level of service to the County's customers
Processes applications for residential projects as well as public utilities, environmental health, various town permits including those for the health and sanitation and fire marshal's office
Keeps up-to-date on building code rules, zoning rules, and processes that may change within the County
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Five (5) years of related work experience
Or equivalent education and/or experience
Possession of a Public Notary certification (or willingness to obtain within first six (6) months of hire)
Complete an assigned law and administration course
Knowledge of local codes and ordinances related to zoning, environmental health, construction trades and public utilities
Knowledge of office practices and procedures
Knowledge of correct grammar, vocabulary and spelling usage
Knowledge of arithmetic and its applications in general office work
Knowledge of other County departments' processes and procedures related to permits and development
Skill in delivering customer service
Ability to help the customer and design team work from one step to another
Ability to read and interpret deeds, ordinances, and maps related to land development
Agility to explain complex documents, regulations, and terms in concise language
Ability to work with interruptions and function successfully in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to plan and organize administrative support activities and tasks
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department staff, other employees, builders, developers, and the general public
Ability to gather and give basic information and instructions on Department programs
Ability to gather and compile data from a variety of sources and maintain files
Ability to pay attention to detail
