Responsibilities
Advise on matters related to Maryland Public Charter School law, nonprofit governance, and state education regulations
Review contracts, agreements, and policies for legal accuracy and compliance
Provide input on governance and operational policies to ensure alignment with legal obligations
Support the Board in ensuring all legal and ethical standards are met
Collaborate with the Policy & Risk Management Advisor on risk mitigation and policy updates
Advise on any legal issues related to student rights, employment law, or organizational operations
Review bylaws, board resolutions, and charter-related filings for accuracy and compliance
Support board training and understanding of legal responsibilities
Ensure appropriate recordkeeping and document retention practices are in place
Attend quarterly Governance & Policy Advisory Council meetings
Coordinate with the Treasurer (Finance Chair) on contracts and compliance related to financial agreements
Provide legal updates and recommendations to the Governance & Compliance Chair and Board as needed
Qualification
Required
Licensed attorney with experience in education, nonprofit, or charter school law
Knowledge of Maryland state education policies and charter regulations
Strong analytical and communication skills
Commitment to ethical governance and Legacy RISE Academy's mission of integrity, empowerment, and equity
