Transportation Engineer I -Materials and Geotechnical

The Maryland Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer I in the Materials and Geotechnical track. This role involves performing engineering duties in support of project development, highway infrastructure, and construction projects, while also conducting materials certification reviews and QA/QC testing under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

Performing engineering duties in support of project development, highway infrastructure, asset management, construction projects and condition assessments
Conduct any of materials certification reviews, materials QA/QC testing/evaluation in the laboratory as well as in the field
Utilization of materials test results in pavement/geotechnical design
Performing hands-on forensic evaluations of structures
Preparing inspection reports and making repair recommendations under the direction of an experienced engineer
Communicate with contractors, engineers, and OMT personnel as needed to get the job done in a clear and efficient manner
Review, understand and explain the project documents, specifications, and drawings to the contractors in an effective manner
Attend the pre-construction and progressive meetings and act as a liaison between District, OMT, and contractors

Required

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in any of the following: biological engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, civil engineering technology, geological engineering, materials engineering, metallurgy engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, or welding engineering
Employees assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland
