Vice President of Curriculum and Instruction

The Academies of Math and Science is seeking a strategic, results-driven instructional leader to serve as Vice President of Curriculum & Instruction. This role is responsible for designing and implementing a high-quality academic program that drives student success and builds instructional excellence across the AMS network.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and ongoing refinement of a cohesive, standards-aligned academic program across all schools and grade levels
Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum within and across content areas
Balance network-wide academic soundness with state-specific standards and accountability requirements in Arizona, Arkansas, and Nevada
Translate the organization’s mission and values into clear instructional priorities and expectations
Oversee the selection, design, adaptation, and implementation of high-quality, research-based curricula
Ensure curricula are culturally responsive, rigorous, and aligned to the needs of AMS students and diverse learners
Establish clear guidance for scope and sequence, pacing, lesson planning, and use of instructional materials
Monitor curriculum implementation fidelity and adjust supports as needed to improve effectiveness
Define and champion a network-wide vision for excellent instruction
Develop and maintain instructional frameworks, rubrics, and look-fors that promote effective teaching practices
Support school leaders and instructional coaches in conducting high-quality observations, feedback, and coaching cycles
Promote evidence-based instructional strategies that increase student engagement, differentiation, and mastery of standards
Design and oversee a comprehensive teacher development system that supports educators at all stages of their careers
Ensure professional learning is: Job-embedded, Data-driven, Aligned to curriculum and instructional priorities
Lead the development of onboarding and induction programs for new teachers
Collaborate with school leaders to strengthen teacher retention through meaningful growth pathways and support structures
Support the development of internal teacher leaders and instructional coaches
Oversee a balanced assessment system that includes formative, interim, and summative measures
Partner with school leaders to analyze student achievement and growth data to inform instruction and interventions
Identify trends, gaps, and root causes impacting student performance
Use data to continuously refine curriculum, instructional strategies, and professional learning
Support schools in implementing effective MTSS/RTI frameworks
Serve as a strategic partner to principals and instructional leaders
Support school leaders in developing and executing school-based academic plans aligned to network priorities
Conduct regular academic reviews to assess instructional quality, leadership effectiveness, and student outcomes
Build principals’ capacity to lead adult learning and instructional improvement
Champion equity-centered instructional practices that address the needs of underserved and at-risk students
Ensure academic programs support English Learners, students with disabilities, and other special populations
Collaborate with student support teams to align academics with social-emotional learning and whole-child supports
Lead initiatives focused on closing achievement gaps and accelerating learning
Ensure curriculum and instructional practices comply with state, federal, and charter authorizer requirements
Support academic components of charter renewals, audits, and accountability reporting
Monitor school performance relative to state accountability systems and internal performance goals
Collaborate with network colleagues and teams to ensure alignment between academic goals and organizational systems
Partner with Talent teams on teacher recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and development
Support budgeting and resource allocation decisions related to curriculum, instructional materials, and professional learning

Required

K–12 instructional leadership experience
Prior experience supervising leaders, including Directors or equivalent senior instructional roles
Demonstrated success improving academic outcomes in Title I schools
Strong expertise in English Learner instruction, assessment, and compliance
Deep understanding of curriculum design, assessment systems, instructional coaching, and Arizona accountability metrics
Bachelor's degree required

Preferred

Experience working in charter school networks or CMO's across multiple states
Proven ability to lead system-wide instructional improvement at scale
Experience aligning curriculum and instruction to diverse state accountability systems
Strong executive presence with the ability to influence across roles and levels
Highly data-driven, goal-oriented, and results-focused
Collaborative leader who balances accountability with support
Deep commitment to equity and excellence for all students
Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field a plus
