IT Infrastructure Engineer

United Way Worldwide is dedicated to making a difference in the world, and they are seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of their IT infrastructure. This role involves managing systems, networks, Microsoft 365, and emerging technologies while focusing on security and user support.

Responsibilities

Administer and support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Intune
Helps design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs
Manage Windows servers, both on-premises and in cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
Maintain core infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
Implement and manage security protocols including endpoint protection, patching, identity management, and threat detection
Support and integrate AI tools and platforms to enhance IT operations and staff productivity
Automate routine tasks using scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python)
Monitor system performance and resolve technical issues across infrastructure layers
Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation
Collaborate with program teams to ensure technology supports mission delivery
Maintain clear documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures

Required

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering roles
Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and enterprise networking
Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls
Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and tools (e.g., MFA, endpoint protection, SIEM)
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and documentation abilities
Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments
Commitment to continuous learning and technology innovation
A service mindset and dedication to supporting the nonprofit mission

Preferred

Familiarity with AI tools or platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, automation bots) is a plus
Experience working in or supporting nonprofit organizations is highly desirable
Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, M365 Enterprise Admin, Cisco CCNA, or CompTIA Security+ are preferred
