Paralegal
The City of Houston is seeking a skilled and energetic Paralegal to join their Municipal Prosecution team. The role involves assisting attorneys with various legal tasks, including discovery requests, legal research, and document preparation.

Responsibilities
Assisting with processing and responding to discovery requests
Assisting with maintaining and recording discovery files
Assisting in setting and resetting cases
Performing legal research on a wide variety of matters related to criminal law and procedure
Assisting attorneys in drafting various documents such as ordinances, resolutions, motions, and orders including formatting, reviewing, and verifying documents for accuracy
Assisting attorneys in preparing and organizing evidence
Recordkeeping and preparing reports
Working in Word, Outlook, Excel and other software programs
Other administrative duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate and a certificate in paralegal or legal assistant studies
An Associate degree may be substituted for the above certification requirement
Above average academic performance is preferred
Requires basic computer skills and working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
No experience is required
Preferred
At least one (1) year of paralegal experience
Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2)
Basic knowledge of Texas criminal laws and procedures is preferred
Excellent research and writing skills
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
Excellent communication skills
Proficiency with Word, Outlook, and Excel
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6
