The State of Vermont Department of Health is seeking a Wetlands Ecologist to support regulatory review of projects ensuring compliance with Vermont Wetland Rules. The role involves field work to identify wetlands, review development projects, and communicate with various stakeholders regarding wetland protections.

Responsibilities

Support regulatory review of projects to ensure compliance with the Vermont Wetland Rules
Travel throughout the state to identify wetlands in the field
Review development projects and perform jurisdictional determinations
Evaluate wetland permit applications
Communicate daily with landowners, municipalities, consultants, and government colleagues regarding wetland protections

Qualification

Wetland ecologyWetland delineationWetland functional assessmentGISTechnical writingCommunication skills

Required

Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field
OR Bachelor's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field
OR Four (4) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field
Excellent communication and technical writing skills
Comfortable communicating with consultants and landowners

Preferred

Wetland related experience
Basic knowledge of wetland ecology, wetland delineation, and wetland functional assessment
GIS experience
