Responsibilities

Review, interpret and process legal documents, court orders and arrest documents using applicable records management systems
Collect, prepare and review data for statistical purposes and report to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies
With high degree of accuracy, enter, cancel, and modify reports using applicable electronic record management systems
Process and file all incoming documentation and maintain records according to established rules and regulations
Receive, account for and release money, personal property and clothing submitted to MDC at booking; check property for safety hazards and secure items
Maintain accurate records and logs of all personal property; retrieve and gather personal property for inmates being released
Investigate and research missing or lost personal property
Maintain security of work areas by limiting access to authorized personnel only; maintain and control access to files
Provide exceptional customer service to outside agencies, the public, coworkers, etc. by providing appropriate information according to policy and procedures
Provide typing/word processing assistance for the department; answer telephone, transfer calls and take messages when necessary
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner

Required

High school diploma or GED, plus four (4) years office/clerical, inventory control and/or records management experience; OR any related combination of education from an accredited college or university or related experience totaling four (4) years in office/clerical, inventory control, record management or related field. Related education and experience may substitute for the required education and experience and may be interchangeable on a year for year basis
Must be able to work shift work, overtime and maintain regular attendance
Skilled in computer use for word processing, data entry and retrieval
Knowledge of record management, information processing letter and report writing, and cash handling techniques
Knowledge of principles and practices of property acquisition, storage and release
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written English
Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices
Ability to operate standard office machines including typewriter, computer, copier, fax machine, calculator and multi-line telephone system
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with the public, supervisor, co-workers and all those contacted in the course of work
Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks in an automated environment
Knowledge of county policies and procedures, regulations, and state statutes relating to material management
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and a background investigation
This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing
Employee must comply with Bernalillo County safety policy requirements
