Administrative Specialist-Cross Connection Control

The City of Durham is seeking an Administrative Specialist for its Department of Water Management. This role involves providing administrative support to the Cross Connection Control division, including tasks related to backflow permits, program compliance, and coordination of activities.

Responsibilities

Issuing / disapproving backflow permit applications
Enforcement and regulation of the City’s Cross Connection Control (CCC) Program in compliance with NC Building Code, (Plumbing & Fire), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), NC General Statutes, NC Administrative Code, Safe Drinking Water Act, and the City of Durham CCC Ordinance
Meeting coordination and calendars
Monitoring and evaluating program activities
Time keeping
Retrieving data
Preparing personnel reports
Filing, ordering supplies
Completing special projects as assigned

Required

Associate's degree or equivalent in business or related field
Two years of advanced administrative support experience
Must have a valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license 'or' if you currently have another state driver's license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire

Preferred

Skilled with Microsoft Suite
Previous experience in plumbing, cross connection control/ backflow, code enforcement and inspection
Proficiency at picking up on new computer systems
Being able to multi-task
Ability to maintain confidential information
Prepare clear and concise reports based on data research performed
Provide effective leadership and coordination in developing solutions recommending new techniques, and may supervise staff procedures with ability to independently perform projects
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Positive attitude and energetic team player to accomplish division and department goals
Working knowledge of MUNIS and LDO software
Past experience working with plumbing, fire, and/or utility contractors
