Responsibilities

Perform engineering on transmission line design projects to ensure safe, reliable, high-quality, cost-efficient, reliable designs
Provide technical support to other GRE engineers, the Land Rights and Permitting departments, field technicians, operators, and others to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the GRE transmission system
Lead and participate on cross-functional teams responsible to develop and update internal GRE design standards and equipment specifications to ensure consistent, high-quality designs
Perform project management for small Transmission division projects, as assigned, to ensure all financial, functional, and schedule requirements are met
Develop project design drawings and documentation
Ensure that transmission line designs meet all strength, loading, and clearance requirements in an economical manner
May participate in regional or national working groups as required to gain industry knowledge and help influence industry decisions

Required

Bachelor's degree (or advanced) in civil engineering. Electrical or mechanical engineering degrees may be considered, if applicant has at least 4+ years of transmission line design experience
4+ years of experience in engineering or science-related position within the utility or a related industry required
Understanding of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code)
Extensive knowledge and experience using PLS-CADD and MFAD
Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.)/E.I.T. certification required
Understanding of transmission line construction
Skill in utilizing and assessing technologies related to the utility industry
Verbal and written communication skills
Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions
Ability to work within a team environment
Project management skills
Demonstrated experience in utilizing problem-solving skills to address primarily technical nature issues

Preferred

7+ years of transmission line design engineering experience is strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience in designing and building transmission lines operating at 69 kV and 115 kV, including route selection, Public Utilities Commission (PUC) permitting support, land rights coordination, design, vendor approval, issue packages, construction support and as built documents highly preferred
Experience designing 200+ kV transmission lines preferred but not required
