Business & Workforce Development Specialist

TDC is focused on creating and retaining quality jobs in the greater Plattsburgh area. The Business & Workforce Development Specialist is responsible for developing strategic communications and implementing workforce development initiatives that engage external employers and build a skilled talent pipeline.

Responsibilities

Supports the development and implementation of corporate marketing and workforce strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and economic development goals
Assists in the administration of current workforce programs, including tracking program outcomes
Supports the design and implementation of talent pipeline initiatives, including career pathway development, and work-based learning models
Supports the planning and execution of events and meetings (e.g. Manufacturing Day and Park Perks)
Attains proficiency in external training resources for employers (e.g. apprenticeship models and incentives available through government programs) to develop and share materials for direct and public communications
Conducts detailed workforce needs assessments to identify skills gaps, talent shortages, and future labor demands
Collects and analyzes labor market data, industry trends, and workforce indicators to inform strategic planning
Supports the development and implementation of an annual marketing plan and budget in concert with the President and Director of Business Development
Creates & deploys a monthly email newsletter
Analyzes competitive best practices in economic development digital marketing and creates benchmarks appropriate to TDC
Develops press contacts, writes press releases, creates media kits and strategizes article placement
Builds strong relationships with local stakeholders, including members of the media, educational and training partners, and employers
Prepares reports, presentations, and briefs for internal stakeholders, external partners, and TDC Board of Directors
Contributes to grant development, submittals, and implementation tied to workforce and economic development initiatives

Required

Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate across organizations
Draws from professional marketing and communication principles and can effectively use basic design programs (e.g. Canva)
Effective communicator with strong writing, speaking, relationship-building, and presentation skills
Must have a valid Driver's License and Passport, or ability to obtain a Passport
Must be able to travel to Canada
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, CRM tools, and data management platforms
Graduation from a bachelor's degree program in marketing, communications, economic development, business or a related discipline and two (2) years' experience, or an associate's degree and four (4) years' experience

Preferred

2–5 years of experience in economic development, workforce development, community development, industry engagement, or related fields
