Responsibilities
Plan and interpret inspection procedures and sequence including necessary layout, setup, and mathematical computation required, working from engineering design prints, drawings, work orders, specifications, and standards
Perform process inspection of experimental work operations during fabrication and assembly
Prove manufacturing and inspection capabilities of tools and fixtures by making first run inspection on parts and assemblies and present collected data to Quality Assurance for the purpose of establishing standards and procedures
Inspect first run, production, and/or experimental parts and assemblies when inspection tooling and methods are not adequate
Plan inspection procedures including necessary layout, and mathematical computation required for all types of tooling and precision measuring devices in accordance with tooling standards, tool orders, service requests, and tool design drawing specifications, using tooling information and data from production, tooling, engineering, and other departments concerned. Inspect such tooling, including perishable tooling and cutting tools, as jigs, fixtures, dies, patterns, parallels and dies, templates, and other special and general purpose tools involving closely coordinated locating points, interrelated dimensions in more than one plane, compound angles, and irregular contours. Recommend tool design or planning revisions to make tools more efficient and practical to operate
Perform complete or percentage acceptance inspection of all types of internal and external gears, master gears, splines and gearlike products for such dimensions as lead error, involute error, concentricity, tooth spacing, backlash and surface roughness in conformance with specifications
Inspect, adjust, make replacements and perform internal and external repair of precision measuring tools such as transits, tool gauges, master gauges, micrometers, optical comparators, and probagraph as required. Calibrate flow transducers, pressure measuring devices, and strain gauges
Lay out diagrams for use on optical comparator in accordance with engineering change or tool design change orders. Approve acceptable tooling or recommend return to vendor
Make periodic inspection checks at established intervals to determine that tools and precision gauges as described herein have retained their dimensional characteristics. Plan, calibration, repair and trouble shooting procedures for all types of tooling and precision measuring devices
Perform the duties described in Inspector, General classification as assigned
