Responsibilities

Advise and support cross-functional teams across Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury on a broad range of real estate matters, including commercial leasing; acquisitions and dispositions of real property; reciprocal easement and supplemental agreements; tax and CAM issues; government condemnations; and other legal matters affecting the company’s real estate portfolio
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of real estate contracts, with a strong emphasis on new retail leases and amendments to existing leases
Advise the real estate business team on letters of intent for new retail leases
Serve as a subject matter expert and provide support to the Litigation team on real estate–related disputes
Provide support on additional legal matters and strategic initiatives as needed
Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality
Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities

Required

Candidates with a Juris Doctorate (JD) are encouraged to apply
6 plus years of relevant law firm or in-house experience and in good standing with a state bar
Significant experience advising on commercial retail leasing, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating new retail leases and amendments within a complex retail real estate portfolio
Deep knowledge of reciprocal easement agreements, mall operating agreements, and legal matters related to regional and super-regional shopping center real estate
Experience supporting acquisitions, dispositions, condemnations, and other transactional matters affecting large-scale real estate portfolios
Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of real estate agreements, balancing legal risk with business objectives
Strong ability to analyze complex legal and factual issues, assess risk, and deliver practical, business-focused legal advice
Experience serving as a subject matter expert on real estate litigation and partnering effectively with litigation teams
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with business leaders and cross-functional partners across multiple brands and functions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely for internal and external audiences and advise stakeholders at all levels
Ability to think independently, creatively, strategically, and technically while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and work effectively across functional lines and organizational levels
Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision
Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs
