They are seeking a Host for Alumni Hall, responsible for the daily operations and hospitality experience for literary arts residents and community visitors, ensuring the building is well maintained and events are supported.

Responsibilities

Prepares the building for opening, oversees the operations and maintenance throughout the summer season (working with seasonal support personnel: housekeeper, maintenance, and others), and closes the building at season end
Creates a physical and emotional environment within the building which is gracious to all organizations housed within (CLSC, CLSC Alumni Association, Chautauqua Writers Center, Friends of the Chautauqua Writers Center, Chautauqua Literary Arts Staff, other Chautauqua Community Groups), visitors and residents
Maintains the building, including some housekeeping of the space throughout the summer (particularly in public restrooms and for private housing for guests) and manages all Building Maintenance and IT Helpdesk tickets for the space and guests during the summer
Hires, with approval of the Director of Literary Arts, seasonal support personnel: housekeeper and receptionist(s)
Schedules, coordinates, supervises, and provides for set up and use of the building, through understanding the priorities of each group housed within
Purchases kitchen supplies and food, maintaining records of expenditures for the specific organizations involved
Plans and prepares breakfasts, lunches for program guests, and beverages for guests and functions within the building
Assists with plans for private parties and receptions for the organizations within the building, working helpfully with caterers and volunteers
Assists with seasonal events, including but not limited to, weekly CLSC Book Signings, the Great American Picnic, the Recognition Day reception and gala, Friends of the Chautauqua Writers’ Center receptions, The Chautauqua Prize reception
Maintains communication with the Director of Literary Arts, Program Executive Assistant and Hospitality Manager, Education Department Coordinator, Alumni Association officers, and Friends of the Writers’ Center to facilitate the smooth operation of the building

Required

At least a high school diploma
3-4 years of experience in a hospitality setting
Exceptional professionalism
Ability to represent and advocate for Chautauqua Institution in a conversation with program guests
Sound judgment
Strong interest in the intellectual work of Chautauqua, particularly its renowned Chautauqua Literary Arts programming
Outstanding hospitality skills
Organizational ability and attention to detail
