Operation Code is seeking passionate individuals to join their Board of Directors to support military service members and Veterans in their tech career growth. The Board Director will lead with empathy, represent the organization in advocacy efforts, and contribute to fundraising and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

Serve a two-year term with the capability to renew
Lead with empathy and manage people through servant leadership on board committees, and take on additional special assignments based on your unique skills and abilities
Represent Operation Code as an organizational ambassador in advocacy and capable to meet with local county, state or federal government officials, including Members of Congress (including, permanent staff), and senior private-sector leaders to explore new opportunities and strategic partnerships for the organization to capitalize and leverage
Serve as a top-level development or fundraising officer, and help plan and participate in online and offline fundraisers, all designed to bring in financial capital to staff our programs & services. We don’t expect you to know everything about fundraising, but we do expect you to give of your personal wallet, a donation from your company, or coordinate access to capital. Once an intro is made, the partnership team can take on the main effort
Act as an organizational brand marketer and take on every available opportunity to share our members’ success stories to the media, educating at every chance to build rapport, trust and excite everyone about our work, and the challenges we face. Remember, everyone loves a good story
Be an organizational strategist and force multiplier, providing advice and input to the CEO and Executive Director's vision to think through our programs, open source projects/technical tools, and operational processes to better align resources and people, and explore new ways of executing a technical, operational and strategic mission
Serve as a business creative, helping the leadership team improve our business models while envisioning new business models that lead to better and more expeditious delivery of services nationally and internationally, where our members are located. Think outside the box and be prepared to pivot and innovate based on data-driven experience
Be available as an ambassador for global tech conferences, or connect our Executive Director with new speaking opportunities to expand our impact and reach
Serve as a sounding board, actively listen, participate and engage our members during our quarterly town halls. These conference calls are unique, informative and honest, because you’ll hear directly from those we’re serving, what their challenges are as well as their programming pursuits, as well as the community team that manages this growth. We don’t expect you to be on every town hall, but it would be inspiring to honor us with your presence on these calls
Attend monthly Board meetings and be actively involved with the leadership of the organization as an advisor
Be accountable and take responsibility. As a Board Director, you are a legal representative of the organization and responsible for Operation Code's health and survival. Be prepared to come up with solutions and roll up your sleeves to implement them. As a board member for a fast growing globally recognized non-profit that is growing 33% per year, our leadership leads by example and is ready to serve others

Required

Hold 8-10 years experience in leading and growing an organization (non-profit experience a bonus)
Have 5-7 years hands on technical industry experience
Deeply empathize and are closely affiliated with the military/Veteran community (you do not need to be a former service member or military spouse but it helps!)
Hold a specialty in one or more of the following skill sets: 1) crisis communications/marketing/PR, 2) finance/fundraising/business development, 3) public policy/legislative affairs 3) program and curriculum development 4) legal 5) mental health/healthcare 6) technology/cybersecurity/engineering
