Manager of Interprofessional Development and Education

Responsibilities
Meet regularly with faculty to ensure all promotion and tenure requirements have been met; maintain current knowledge of all faculty development resources; promote a culture of education and professional excellence within the Department
Collaborate with surgeons across the state to coordinate elective rotations; nurture and expand mentoring programs; work with the Program Director to support resident professional development; assist with needs of external rotators
Work with divisions on position proposals; ensure fellow growth and autonomy; partner with other programs to coordinate educational efforts and prevent duplication
Support the mission of the lab through collaborative efforts; assist with funding acquisition and program advertising; optimize training opportunities and program utilization
Oversee medical students including scheduling of rotations, educational content development, and growth of the Surgery program; ensure compliance with clerkship requirements
Oversee elective rotations and visiting student placements; provide guidance and coordination to students with interest in surgery
Oversee and collaborate on placement of PA and NP student rotations; coordinate educational experiences and increase exposure opportunities for trainees
Work with military medics to provide exposure to faculty and learning opportunities outside Trauma; diversify clinical experiences and consolidate opportunities with other learners
Collaborate with the Department of Nursing on the RNFA program; support initiatives to increase the ability of nurses to assist in the operating room
Coordinate with the Dean's Office and faculty to provide quality shadowing opportunities; explore and expand educational opportunities at the undergraduate level
Direct the work of the Coordinator of Student Programs; ensure all educational requirements are met; verify that scheduled lectures and learning activities are executed efficiently and effectively
Organize and maintain comprehensive program schedules including lectures, clinical rotations, and related educational activities across all learner groups
Ensure that daily operations comply with departmental policies, School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education guidelines, and ACGME requirements; implement and maintain adherence to all regulatory standards
Manage the annual budget for all medical student expenses in the Department of Surgery; maintain and utilize a WVU p-card for authorized purchases; ensure fiscal responsibility and cost control
Hold oversight and decision-making authority for education-focused personnel within the Department of Surgery; conduct performance reviews; ensure alignment with departmental goals and standards
Coordinate educational and testing spaces; manage logistics for visiting professorships and special programs; ensure optimal utilization of facilities
Communicate daily with the Vice Chair of Interprofessional Development and Education and maintain frequent communication with faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, and other learners to ensure efficient operations
Collaborate with departmental leadership on activities related to program accreditation processes; maintain documentation and compliance records
Create and maintain educational program databases and academic calendars; manage student records and tracking systems
Coordinate with regional and statewide partner institutions to facilitate clinical rotations and educational placements; maintain collaborative relationships with external programs
Plan and coordinate educational events, visiting professorships, workshops, and professional development activities for all learner groups
Independently solve educational programming issues as they arise; provide flexible support for program needs during extended hours when necessary
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in health sciences, education, business administration, or related field
Five (5) years of relevant professional experience
Demonstrated leadership, organization, and management skills
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with senior management across the organization orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, delegate, and ensure accountability
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information
Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills
Knowledge of the structure and operations of a major university and academic health sciences center
Advanced project management skills
Skills in exercising initiative, resourcefulness, and sound judgment with the ability to problem solve and make decisions
Ability to use email, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholder groups
Knowledge of conference and event planning
Comprehension, application, and utilization of accounting, procurement, and invoicing procedures and systems
Time management and the ability to function independently
Organization, detail orientation, adaptability, and self-motivation
Preferred
Master's degree in health sciences, education, business administration, or related field
Previous experience in an academic health sciences center
Experience managing interprofessional educational programs
