Retail Banking Payments & Deposit Product Research Consultant - US Banking Expert

This role supports Bankuity’s research efforts to deepen product-level understanding of how retail bank accounts are structured and operated across the U.S. banking landscape, requiring expertise in U.S. retail banking products and payments mechanics.

Responsibilities
Document how major U.S. banks structure consumer deposit accounts (checking, savings, MMAs, and special-tier accounts)
Map product tiers, eligibility criteria, fee/waiver logic, and how these impact transaction behavior
Explain how banks operationalize P2P access (e.g., Zelle, Venmo, PayPal) at the account level, including eligibility logic and internal risk controls (eg. student vs premium checking; savings vs transactional accounts)
Help differentiate network rules (e.g., NACHA) from bank-specific implementation of ACH, debit, and P2P posting behavior
Clarify how banks use account flags, internal codes, and core processor configurations to determine when and how accounts can send/receive various payment types
Provide detailed insights into ACH & debit posting order, return practices, and timing of settlement vs posting
Illuminate key internal operational distinctions that affect payment outcomes—especially for risk assessment (e.g., NSF patterns, posting order impact)
Research reports and structured product tables
Written best-practice documentation, annotated examples, and signal definitions
Regular briefings with Bankuity’s product, analytics, and engineering teams
Qualification
Required
8+ years in U.S. retail banking or payments operations, with hands-on exposure to deposit product design and payment systems
Experience at banks, credit unions, core providers, payment processors, or payment networks
Demonstrated understanding of consumer deposit product configurations and eligibility rules
Demonstrated understanding of ACH (FedACH, EPN) and debit authorization/settlement
Demonstrated understanding of how account design affects risk and payment outcomes
Demonstrated understanding of internal bank risk controls vs. network rules
Preferred
Bank operations, payments risk, deposit product management, or ACH risk roles
Experience with core banking systems, how they are configured for payment permissions and account flags
Exposure to NACHA operating rules, debit/P2P access logic, or payment posting order impacts
Ability to communicate complex banking concepts clearly to mixed technical and non-technical audiences
Prior advisory or consulting work with banks on product design or payments
Exposure to open banking, transaction analytics, or bank integrations
Certificates such as Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) or Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) through NACHA
