The role involves researching and analyzing how U.S. retail banks design and operate consumer deposit accounts and their interaction with payment systems.

Responsibilities

Research and document how large U.S. retail banks structure and differentiate consumer checking and savings accounts (product tiers, features, fees, eligibility)

Analyze how banks use (or do not use): Internal product codes, Account numbering conventions, Routing number segmentation, Core banking system configurations to distinguish between deposit account offerings

Evaluate account-level features such as: Early direct deposit, Monthly fee and waiver logic, Minimum or average daily balance requirements, Overdraft and posting order policies

Provide expert insight into ACH credit and debit processing, including: Effective Entry Dates, Posting vs. settlement timing, Time-zone considerations, Bank discretion vs. NACHA network rules

Provide perspective on debit card processing, including authorization, settlement, and interaction with available balance

Synthesize findings into clear written outputs (briefs, tables, reference documents) for internal product and analytics teams

Identify where public disclosures end and where internal bank methodology typically applies
