Civil Engineer (Transportation)
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking an enthusiastic Civil Engineer to join the Department of Transportation. In this role, you will apply your engineering expertise to improve highway safety and traffic management by overseeing the design, development, and evaluation of engineering plans for various construction and maintenance initiatives.

Responsibilities
Prepare and technically review comprehensive right-of-way and construction plans for various highway projects
Design limited access multi-lane highways, two-lane highways in new locations, and reconstruct existing two-lane highways
Realign approaches for bridge improvement initiatives
Assess existing field and site conditions to identify design constraints that may hinder compliance with PennDOT specifications
Provide necessary engineering analysis for senior staff when Technically Infeasible Forms or Design Exception Requests are needed
Identify potential safety issues and recommend design modifications or countermeasures for consideration by senior engineers or the squad leader
Develop precise cost estimates for assigned projects based on historical data and recent bid results, ensuring that all estimates are mathematically accurate and encompass all relevant work items
Create detailed plans that cover roadway design, traffic control, and erosion and sedimentation control, determining the quantities of work required to successfully complete each project
Qualification
Required
Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title
