Responsibilities
Perform book/receiving duties for inmates received at a regional jail
Verify accurate and complete commitments, control and accountability of inmate personal property, and collect inmate identification documents
Properly identify inmates being committed or released from the facility; record inmate identification through fingerprinting and photographing
Issue facility uniforms and supplies; explain basic rules and regulations
Work various duty shifts and work overtime if necessary
Learn to recognize usual inmate behaviors; read, comprehend and interpret policies and procedures, rules and regulations
Write accurate and concise narrative reports regarding inmate behavior or incidents
Use a computer terminal for entry of data; complete standardized forms
Process inmates into and out of the facility
Maintain hard copies of inmate files as well as utilizing the OIS system to input inmate file information
Read and act on court orders
Answer calls from magistrates, judges, circuit clerks, prosecutors, attorneys, other correctional facilities, federal facilities, law enforcement agencies, as well as the general public
Work security posts, as necessary
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent
Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing routine office work
Ability to work various duty shifts and work overtime if necessary
Ability to learn to recognize usual inmate behaviors
Ability to read, comprehend and interpret policies and procedures, rules and regulations
Ability to write accurate and concise narrative reports regarding inmate behavior or incidents
Ability to use a computer terminal for entry of data
Ability to complete standardized forms
Required to successfully complete a correctional academy
Benefits
$5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.
Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.
