Technical Writer Cybersecurity Policy & Procedure

The successful candidate will update existing policies and create new documentation mapped to NIST CSF and related frameworks, partnering closely with senior personnel to translate technical controls into clear, actionable documents.

Responsibilities

Lead policy lifecycle work: author, edit, and maintain cybersecurity policies, standards, procedures, and playbooks; manage versioning and approvals
Update legacy documents and create "greenfield" policies aligned to NIST CSF (Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, Recover)
Develop artifacts including: Information Security Program Charter, Risk Management Policy, Asset Management Policy, Identity & Access Management Policy, Logging/Monitoring Standard, Incident Response & Recovery Plans, Vendor Risk Management Policy
Partner with SMEs across IT, Security, Legal, and Operations; facilitate review sessions and drive closure on feedback
Ensure alignment with regulatory/contractual requirements and internal governance; maintain traceability to controls
Create user guides, FAQs, and communication materials to support rollout (e.g., MFA enablement for key systems)
Own style guide, templates, and taxonomy; enforce consistency across all deliverables
Track progress in a documentation backlog; report status, risks, and dependencies to senior stakeholders

Required

5-10 years of professional writing experience focused on cybersecurity governance, risk, and compliance (GRC)
Demonstrated ability to update legacy policies and create net-new ('greenfield') documentation
Expertise mapping to NIST CSF; working knowledge of ISO 27001 and PCI DSS
Exceptional communication skills; able to engage and influence senior personnel and SMEs
Strong organization and project management; can manage multiple documents and review cycles concurrently
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, SharePoint), document control, and versioning best practices

Preferred

Experience with SOC 2, HIPAA, and privacy frameworks
Background in technical writing for IAM, logging/monitoring, incident response, and vendor risk
